My Healthy Juice Cleanse: Picture Journey and The Best Juicers

Rob and I watched the documentary "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" on Netflix and promptly ran to the grocery store to get everything we need to dramatically change our diet! I have been fascinated with the brain-body connection and knew even though I'm already a pretty healthy person, this would bring us to a whole new world!

So I did a 7-day juicing cleanse and drinking the recommended amount of water 💦💦💦  for my last week of before my birthday! I also did my best to eat healthy vegan foods along with my juices, like this delicious avocado bean salad, because my goal was not weight loss.

I've heard so many good things about juicing and just finished watching the movie Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead (I highly recommend the movie. If you don't have Netflix you can rent or buy it on Amazon: Fat Sick and Nearly Dead movie for two bucks.... ) and also inspired by the amazing Kris Carr and the Brick House Bodies 30/10 challenge... so Rob and I finally tried it.

We used the "Mean Green" recipe from the movie and made enough juice for 6 meals. It was fun using the fancy juicer from the movie, our AirBnB host just happened to have the exact one from the video!

We used the juicer recommended in the film, the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juice Extractor which is a little over $100, about what you'd expect for any decent kitchen appliance.

At first I was worried that I would get too hungry doing this cleanse, but just look at how much went into a day's meals for 2 people. There is NO WAY I could eat half of that if it weren't juiced! No wonder it's so good for you, this is power-packed with nutrients!

Look how much we juiced for 1 day of meals!
(Total cost of all you see here below: $25)

Here are the positive results I got:
- itch free skin
- HUGE boost to metabolism
- better circulation
- stronger focus and memory
- stronger sense of wellbeing

Here are some of the drawbacks:
- skin breaking out
- needing to eat a lot of snacks because of fast metabolism
- cravings for pizza like crazy!
- I felt a little moody and groggy, although Rob felt more energetic
- a juicer is expensive, and if you want a really good one, it's even more expensive!

It takes longer than a week to iron out the drawbacks, but my friends have reassured me that a longer commitment to healthy eating will give me all the positive results I was looking for.

The 3 best juicers you can buy:

So as I said I got the Breville, because it was the one from the movie, and I'm a sucker lol. But I recently found an article from research.com that highlights the best juicers and backs it up with real testing and, well, research! So here's what they said in a nutshell.

Best Juicer for Juice Quantity
As soon as I started telling my healthy-green friends I was juicing, their 1st question to me was always, "is it a slow expeller?" What is that even? So I found out. According to research.com, the slower the better when it comes to juice, because you get more juice out! (and they say the Hurom HH Elite Slow Juicer gets you the most juice) and it BETTER because you are also paying over twice the money. It's $255!

Best Juicer for Juice Quality
Quality is in the eye of the juice-holder, but there is a higher-powered (1000 watt) version of the Breville that research.com says gives you the cleanest, smoothest, most pulp-free juice. Find that here: Breville The Juice Fountain Elite ...and be prepared to part ways with $265 smackaroos.

Best Juicer for... Keeping More Juice on Your Credit Card!
If cost savings is your main concern, take a look at the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth. Nothing fancy, just juice for you.

Conclusion:
Now that I have drank delicious healthy juice for a whole week I want to make it a regular part of my diet. I am definitely more discerning regarding juices and foods I buy at the store, and I feel more at home in the produce aisle! Not just that, I have been looking at healthier, non-cancer-causing products to use on my skin and hair! I've been happy with my middle-of-the road Breville 850 watt juicer from the movie and I love it so much I have brought it with me everywhere- even to Guatemala and back!
