My 5 AM Club Morning Ritual - a 3 Step Habit Hack

If you work super hard and regularly push yourself, you'll soon realize that you really need to learn how to be your own best friend to avoid burn-out. To do so, installing great habits is the only way.

If you don't have the right habits in place, burn out is your worst-case-scenario because it halts all your hard-won progress! Getting up early and front-loading my day is one of the best ways I have learned for how to avoid burn out and that's why it's such an important part of my daily practice.

Getting up at 5 AM is something I've been doing for a while, and it may seem super early and maybe even a little crazy, but it's amazing how quick the time goes by - you'll wish you'd gotten up even earlier! At first, I thought "what am I going to do with all this extra time?" - then as I began to piece all the things I need to accomplish in the morning together I realized... maybe I need to get up at 4am!

A structured morning routine is essential to making it worth it. And trust me, the 5am club morning wake up ritual is like pouring miracle grow on your life. You will get to your dreams so much faster as you mercilessly eliminate distraction and take aggressive daily action to what matters.

5:00 am Morning Ritual (based on Robin Sharma's 20-20-20 Rule)

5:00 am - 5:20 am - GET UP AND MOVE
I jump out of bed. I splash my face with cold water if necessary. Then- I get exercise of some kind, which is normally a dance party, stretching, or even if just skipping in place with a jump rope. This is just to jump-start the metabolic rate, and release endorphins.

5:20 am - 5:40 am - PLAN AND PRAY
I review my goals and purpose, not just for the day but for my life! This is one of the most important steps for me. Of course, none of us can really know what the day will bring. That's why I like to get guidance and grace for the day ahead by praying over my plans.

5:40 am - 6:00 am - LEARN
As you learn more, you achieve more. So during this 20 min stretch, I learn something new by reading, listen to an audio book, or watching a video.
Here is a great quote from Robin on this: "Education is inoculation from disruption"

If you're into this idea of perfecting your morning ritual, I think you'll really like this book called "The Miracle Morning" by Hal Elrod. He's the current thought leader in this area.

I really like this quote by Robert Kiyosaki, talking about the book:
“Hal Elrod is a genius and his book The Miracle Morning has been magical in my life. What Hal has done is taken the 'best practices'—developed over centuries of human consciousness development—and condensed the 'best of the best; into a daily morning ritual. A ritual that is now part of my day.” - Robert Kiyosaki,  author of Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!
What you do after 6:00am is usually pretty straight-forward but there are some great habit hacks for that critical time period too as you get ready for work every day. Interested in seeing my routine for 6:00am - 8:00am? Let me know in the comments below!
